Two hundred and thirty businesses across the Caribbean applied, and at the end of the year, three winners were chosen. Meet our winners!
A passion for promoting Bahamian culture is at the heart of Caribay Cuisine, the third-place winner of the 2021 BTC Business InKnowvation Pitch Challenge, which featured up to $15,000 in prizes, fast internet, and many other opportunities to grow their business digitally. For founders Denise and Philip Poitier, that devotion to sharing their local cuisine has been the driving force behind business’ evolution over the years.
Since its origin as a master's degree project in 2006, Caribay Cuisine has transitioned to a gourmet lunch box catering service, a brick-and-mortar location and then, as a result of the ongoing pandemic, to its current incarnation as a global marketplace for Caribbean products and a platform for virtual culinary tours.
The willingness to pivot with the changing circumstances led Caribay Cuisine to build partnerships with local vendors whose products they featured in their tours and create an app through which those vendors can export their products internationally. In this way, the business creates opportunities for other businesses in its community to succeed as well.
